Never has so much been spent chasing a market that is still debatable.
The final cost remains to be seen but based on the development spending, it's safe to say it won't be cheap. And any AI results aren't totally reliable either.
China's plan is obviously to undercut whatever the West has to offer and they are already showing signs of success. Cheap renewable energy offers an obvious advantage that the USA has stupidly rejected.
The reality is that the value proposition of AI is unclear --- and will remain so until vendors recoup the huge mountain of cash that has already been spent on
development.
Driven by FOMO, investment in AI is proceeding as if the value proposition is a done deal.
In other words, AI spending may well be out of touch with reality --- but no one can really say for sure at this point.
A questionable assumption in my opinion.
